Web Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve final poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best bettors anywhere in the world. While competing in net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha hold’em and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
