No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
