No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
